2 Easy Dairy-Free Almond Mylk Recipes - THE PURE LIFE

After months without a blender, I was getting insanely frustrated. Let’s just say, trying to blend a smoothie in a food processor just doesn’t always work out (*hint: green smoothie all over the walls. And ceiling.). I decided to purchase a Ninja blender and I couldn’t be happier. I like to think of it as an early, early christmas present to myself. So, finally, I got to make some almond milk, because how good is homemade almond milk – am I right? It’s creamy, smooth and nutritious. But then I ran out of almonds (ha..ha..). But no worries folks, I remembered that I could also make dairy-free milk out of hemp seeds, oats, walnuts, etc. and the list goes on!

I started off with a Maple Hemp Mylk: this mylk is more flavourful, protein powered and rich in omegas. I used a touch of cinnamon, pure Canadian maple syrup to sweeten and Manitoba Harvest Hemp Seeds which I buy in bulk from Costco, so it saves some money as I know making your own nut mylk can be pricey! *PS: did you know that hemp is actually a seed, not a nut? Cool, just wanted to straighten things out.

Ingredients
  1. 1 cup hemp seeds
  2. 4 cups of filtered water
  3. 2 tsp pure vanilla extract
  4. 1 tsp good quality cinnamon
  5. 2-3 tbsp pure canadian maple syrup
  6. Pinch of himalayan salt
Instructions
  1. Rinse the hemp seeds.
  2. Add the hemp seeds to the blender with 4 cups water to a high-speed blender and blend for a few minutes until really nicely blended.
  3. Strain the hemp mylk through a nut mylk bag or cheese cloth slowly to remove the pulp. This mylk won't have much pulp, if any.
  4. Rinse the blender and add the strained hemp mylk. Blend the strained hemp mylk with the cinnamon, maple syrup, vanilla extract and salt.
  5. Store in a sealed bottle (like an old milk bottle or a pop-top glass bottle) in the fridge for 3-4 days. Shake before drinking. Best served fresh!

Next up is the star of the show, the mylk you want to serve with vanilla ice cream on a hot summer’s day, the mylk you want to drink for breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert. It’s that good. Strawberry Vanilla Almond Mylk. I used frozen organic strawberries, raw european almonds for maximum nutrition and pure vanilla extract from Mexico.

Prep Time
10 min
Ingredients
  1. 1 cup of raw almonds
  2. 4 cup of filtered water
  3. 1 large handful of frozen organic strawberries
  4. 2 tbsp - 1/4 cup pure canadian maple syrup (depending on how sweet you like it)
  5. 2 tsp pure vanilla extract
  6. 1 nut mylk bag or cheese cloth
Instructions
  1. Here you have the option to soak the almonds overnight, to reduce the amount of phytic acid. I recommend this if you have the time, but no worries if you forget. Simply soak the almonds while you prepare the other ingredients, and then rinse with water afterwards. This is especially important with raw almonds, as this will remove most of the phytic acid, allowing your body to ingest and absorb all of the necessary nutrients from the nuts.
  2. Add the almonds and 3 cups water to a high-speed blender and blend for a few minutes until really nicely blended.
  3. Strain the nut mylk through a nut mylk bag or cheese cloth slowly to remove the pulp. I usually blend the same pulp a second time with another cup of water to get the most out of it.
  4. Rinse the blender and add the strained nut mylk. Blend the strained nut mylk with the strawberries, maple syrup and vanilla extract.
  5. Store in a sealed bottle (like an old milk bottle or a pop-top glass bottle) in the fridge for 3-4 days. Shake before drinking. Best served fresh!
