The Best Essential Oils for Stress Management

I talked about essential oils this week on my Instagram Stories and how they help me with managing stress. I got such incredible feedback that I decided to elaborate a bit more in a blog post. 

These are my favourite essential oils to include my daily rituals to feel calm, collected and focused. I included just some of my favourite oils, but there are so many great options out there!

What is an essential oil?

“An essential oil is a concentrated hydrophobic liquid containing volatile aroma compounds from plants” – basically, they are concentrated straight oils or blends made from plants. Quality control is important when it comes to essential oils, as you don’t want to be diffusing chemicals in your house or putting them on your body. I recommend buying organic or trusted brands when possible. Do your research if you plan on ingesting or topically applying oils on the skin – some can be much too potent for our bodies. 

What are my favourite essential oils for stress management?

These are a few of my favourite oils for when I need to reduce my stress. They are all relatively affordable and a great collection to have if you are first experimenting with oils like I am!

Lavender

A classic, but SUCH a good one. I’ve been using lavender for a few years now and it has helped me fall asleep so much easier. I love adding 10-12 drops to a 500ml spray bottle and misting my pillow and face before I go to sleep. This helps me relax and fall easily into sleep. Lavender is also lovely if you add 2-3 drops into a hot bath. It’s like an at-home spa!

Rose

This is my favourite scent of all time! I love the smell of roses – this essential oil is perfect for hot baths, diluting a few drops in water and rubbing a small drop on your wrists as perfume, or diffusing for a romantic scent. It is known for relieving stress and makes the house smell amaaaazing.

Ylang-Ylang

I love this scent for powerful and calming work sessions and usually find it in blends versus pure oils. I like to pop a blend of ylang-ylang, citrus and floral in my diffuser to keep me focused and energized throughout the day. It is said to promote courage and optimism, perfect for public speaking and big projects.

Immune Blends

I love immune blends with liquorice root, peppermint, tea tree and cinnamon (just to name a few). I like rolling or rubbing it onto swollen glands or a congested chest. When we are stressed, our cortisol levels can rise and deplete essential vitamins which help our immune system function properly. Besides eating tons of zinc and vitamin C during stressful times, I recommend using a calming immune blend of essential oils to help keep your immunity strong.

More Oils

I love purchasing oil blends with bergamot, citruses like orange peel and grapefruit, chamomile, sandalwood, jasmine and frankincense. Look for themed blends to keep it fun. Make sure to look for high quality, organic oils when possible.
